This is Bat Country

Some would say Anne Karetnikov is an illustrator and an artist. Her usual habitat is the eastern US, and was last seen painting and looking very sleep deprived.

Here’s the start to a new thing I’d like to continue to do- especially if my computer starts behaving- a high-speed recording of me painting a new assigned illustration that will (hopefully) become a book cover within the next year. Totally try to fullscreen and up the quality if you are so inclined.

This was sort of a test run. Next up will be my candyland painting I think…

Comments and questions are totally fine with me : )

Sorry it’s been a while to any watchers who really pay attention! A slightly busted laptop and a new part-time job at the local Barnes and Noble has been occupying much of my time and keeping me away from the tumblr. I will try to amend this now that I am getting slightly more used to my job.

First time I’ve seen the full trailer.
It looks better than I thought & I’m pleasantly surprised to see Stephen Moffat co-wrote it, BUT-
1) The animation is weird so far. Can’t get used to it
2) why the blazing billions of blue blistering barnacles is the captain SCOTTISH?
3) Looks like they’ve combined The Crab with the Golden Claws AND the Secret of the Unicorn- probably so he can meet the captain “for the first time” AND they can make a sequel -_-; Ugh.
I’ve been a fan of the TinTin comics ever since I was a little kid. I loved these- they were maybe my favorite comics I ever owned, and I very slowly got the whole collection, book by book over the years, recently ending just a few years ago with a companion guide to the series and the early, politically incorrect copies of TinTin in the Congo and TinTin among the Soviets. I love this series, and I’m going to be pissed as hell if they mess with this great body of work. Don’t get me wrong- some things look OK, but some things are really worrying me too >.<

Harry Potter…

My childhood has officially drawn to a close with the conclusion of the last Harry Potter movie. It marks an era of my life, spanning from 10 years old when my father bought me the first book for my birthday, to today at 22, sitting in a theatre and crying nonstop from a certain plot point onward. Call me a big softie, nerd, whatever- I don’t care what anybody thinks. Harry Potter was always something very personal to me. That was a hard movie to take- it’s been a long, long time since I cried so hard during a film.

Pet Zombie: Relax, I'm [almost] a doctor

SO. My summer class, Legal/Forensic Psychology, started Monday. So far, we’ve just been reviewing the basics of the American legal system (basically the readers’ digest version of my entire Intro to CJUS class last spring.. lol.), but today we actually get to start talking about the basics of…

Wah! Good luck! How long till you’re a doctor now, eh? : P freaky! Maybe AFTER you get out of there and we both have our lives a tad more settled you can visit again! >.< I miss ya! But so- your classes sound both interesting and pain-in-the-butt. I wouldn’t be able to do it, I think.

Ahhh strong antibiotics sound scary D: Better get on a regimen of probiotics so you keep all the good little bacteria who are doing their job. There are different types in different sorts of yogurt- I’d look there- but if you can’t have yogurt I think there are capsules or somesuch? Can’t remember at the moment- BUT INVEST. DON’T GET LE SICK.

“Fear not the tyranny of humankind!” - Metal Velvet slogan
Blitz’d this pic in two days, omg… but Cyber.Baroque’s ‘bad guys’ needed some love! That and I’m really trying to put forth an effort to motivate myself to work on comic pages again.
I hope I can also snag some art commissions before the year is out, just so school fees will be a little more bearable, oi…

Looking cool, my friend : 3 I’m digging the colors and light effects.
As always, if you need comic help/ someone to bounce ideas off of/ whatever- I’m just a phonecall/skype thing away!

Art Progress

Darn. Making some progress on Candyland piece, but trying to figure out what sort of bouquet lord licorice would be offering to princess Lolly. She’s looking a lot like her old 80’s board game self, but aged up a bit in a cutesy way. Lord Licorice is suave and awesome, and also pretty similar to the old game. Mr. Mint I’ve changed quite a bit though, design-wise.

When I get to it, thinking of trying to record my painting process, if my mac can handle it.

Berserk fanatics- rejoice and gaze upon the wonder of the new, awesome full trailer! It was delayed, but it looks like the new, animated Berserk movie will be coming to Japanese theaters January 2012. (Titled “Berserk: Golden Age I- Egg of the Supreme King” ?)

Also, from what I can gather from various sources, this is perhaps just the first part, and two more films will follow- so it will be coming out as a trilogy it seems? I really really hope it gets an American DVD release in the very least. I am very excited, even if Susumu Hirasawa may not be involved with the music- this is unconfirmed though, as far as I know.

Edit: The director is reportedly Toshiyuki Kubooka. Mixed feelings!

I love René Lalique’s work so goddamn much. I don’t understand (and I do- *sigh*) why jewelry and ornamentation can’t have this level of beauty and fantasy anymore, while still remaining in very good taste.

A little inked pic I finished very very recently that might or might not appear in a local free publication called “The Kelsey review”. I call it “The Magician’s Assistant” and it cheered me up a little, even if it isn’t my best : P Bit of a funny scan too… Ah well. P.s. I blame watching “Bleak House” while drawing this for something about the tone and subject matter?….
